Pondering
The thought occurs to me
that the crass mediocrity
of our society
is based solely on self-gratification.
The common practice to ignore,
to knock down to the floor,
to find people such a bore
is to boost our own egos.
We let injustice go by.
Turn from those who cry.
Won't look straight in the eye
of the sad and downtrodden.
The thought occurs to me
that if we had more sympathy
instead of daily apathy,
we could right many wrongs.
If we could push aside
our defiance and our pride,
and look deep inside,
we'd know the answers lie within us.
Then all racial tension
would be put under suspension.
There wouldn't be the question--
aren't we all really the same?
The thought occurs to me
the solution is simplicity.
Giving love unselfishly
to our fellow man.
